The Solar System at a Glance

Solar wind parameters were indicative of a return towards a slow regime. Total IMF strength ranged mainly from 2-5 nT and the Bz component underwent weak deviations for most of the period. An enhancement occurred near 17/2100 UTC, however, that increased the IMF strength to over 10 nT and the Bz component became more pronounced. The cause of the disturbance is unclear at this time, but early analysis indicates the source is transient-like in nature and likely relatively weak influence from a flanking CME. Solar wind speed decreased from near 475 km/s to as low as 350 km/s during the period. With the aforementioned disturbance in the IMF, solar wind speed increased to ~450 km/s. The phi angle varied between sectors most of the period. There is a 35% chance of solar activity, with a 10% chance of a minor event, a 1% chance of a moderate event, and a 1% chance of a strong event.
